Complaint: Northern Wisconsin teen was drinking night of crash in Brown County that killed two, charged with homicide

(WFRV) – A 19-year-old from northern Wisconsin was due in court for a bail/bond hearing after she was charged with homicide after a deadly crash in Brown County.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by Local 5, 19-year-old Laney Peters is facing multiple homicide charges after a crash back in June that killed two people. On June 24 around 6 a.m., someone reported a car that was sticking out of the ditch on STH 172 at Oneida Street.

Authorities responded to the scene and saw that the vehicle was stuck in a tree and needed two ambulances were needed. There were four people at the scene, two of which were pronounced dead according to the complaint.

The two others were reportedly critically injured. One of the passengers spoke with authorities and identified Peters as the driver. The complaint says the passenger claimed that everyone inside the vehicle were drinking.

Police reportedly saw open cans of beer around the vehicle and the odor of intoxicating beverages coming from the vehicle.

At the hospital, police spoke with the passenger who said they were sitting in the back of the vehicle at the time of the crash. They also reportedly saw Peters drinking at an apartment before leaving.

Around 10 a.m., authorities spoke with Peters who said that she doesn’t remember what happened and just remembers waking up on the ground. The complaint says that Peters told authorities that she did drink the night before.

Peters also reportedly said that she had not seen anybody drink before they left. A blood draw was done on Peters around 8:45 a.m.

The complaint says that Peters’ blood alcohol level was 0.064 g/100 mL at the time of the blood draw. It is mentioned that it is expected that her blood alcohol level would have been over the legal limit of 0.08 g/100mL at the time of the crash.

Court records show that Peters was scheduled to be in court on October 15 for a bail/bond hearing. She also has an arraignment scheduled for November 5. The complaint says that Peters is from Wabeno.

Back on October 2, her cash bond was set at $50,000. No additional information was provided.
