ELK MOUND, Wis. (WFRV) – The driver of an SUV that failed to yield at a stop sign of a railroad crossing was flown from the scene of a crash with a train in western Wisconsin on Thursday afternoon.
A release from the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office states that deputies were notified of a vehicle hit by a train near the intersection of 970th Street and US HWY 12 in Elk Mound around 3:15 p.m. on December 12.

After conducting a preliminary investigation, authorities say the driver of the southbound SUV reportedly failed to yield the right of way from the stop sign at the railroad crossing near that intersection.
As a result, the SUV was hit by the eastbound train on its passenger side. The driver was flown from the scene via helicopter and the remaining two passengers were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The crash remains under investigation by the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office and Elk Mound Police Department.
