Victim of accidental shooting in Wisconsin dies at hospital, 17-year-old arrested

MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – The victim of an accidental shooting in southern Wisconsin was pronounced dead at a local hospital, and officers arrested a 17-year-old suspect as a result of the incident.

On April 16, officers with the Madison Police Department say they were called to the 1200 block of Fish Hatchery Road for reports of a gunshot with one person injured.

Medical aid was rendered to the victim by first responders at the scene before the victim was taken to a local hospital, and a 17-year-old suspect from Madison was taken into custody.

Officers say the 17-year-old and the victim were allegedly ‘playing’ with a firearm when it ‘accidentally discharged.’ The age of the victim was not provided.

The victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital, officers stated in an updated release on Thursday.

The teenager was arrested for homicide by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon. No additional details were released.
